Our Hiring Goals
We are committed to finding a wide range of staff members that students of different types can trust, respect, and relate to. It should be noted, however, that we hire first and foremost based on candidates having the right qualities. We will not discriminate based on race or gender or any other legally protected class.
For Chrysalis staffing, we are ideally looking for people who…
We have high standards of character and safety. Ideally we want staff members and volunteers who will set a good example for students and contribute to our overall goals. However, we also understand that all human beings have flaws, and they all make mistakes. As long as potential staff members are truly dedicated to helping our students, meeting the standards listed above, can pass a background check, and raise no red flags, we are willing to give chances to those that really want them, so long as they are willing to learn and to adapt to the general way we do things, and so long as we have an opening on our staff or volunteer group that needs to be filled (or the ability to create an opening through fund-raising or other methods).
Chrysalis staff members are not necessarily expected to be highly experienced. We are happy to train eager potential staff members, so long as they are willing and able to learn, and so long as they are able to contribute in some way while they undergo their initial period of learning and growing.
Ultimately, we value character, heart, the right priorities, and the right general skills more than we value experience or prior training.
For Chrysalis staffing, we are ideally looking for people who…
- “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength….and love your neighbor as yourself.” (With “neighbor” being defined as even those you might be most inclined to judge.)
- Want to share His love with kids, and ideally are called by God to work with kids. We want people who will love our students wholeheartedly and unselfishly. We want people who will have our students’ backs no matter what, who will support them and believe in them and inspire them to be all that they can be.
- Are committed to living and working according to Biblical principles/standards. We want people who are seriously committed to setting a good example for kids in every area of their lives, including in the private areas of their lives when no one is looking except God.
- Seek God’s will first and foremost, who make no big decisions without first praying and seeking the will of God for that situation.
- Believe in the vision of Chrysalis and want to commit themselves to helping bring that to life for every single individual participant.
- Prioritize doing what’s best for the healthy personal development of each and every one of our students first and foremost (above any desire for production quality, public acclaim, financial gain, career advancement, or pushing “star” students towards Broadway/Hollywood).
- Love the arts and want to share that love of the arts with kids.
- Are good at working with kids (good teachers, good examples of good behavior, skilled at deftly handling kids in a positive, uplifting way, without having to resort to yelling, intimidation, threats, etc).
- Are adaptable/flexible/teachable. Staff should be good at adapting to current circumstances and challenges, flexing to work with student needs, and be constantly seeking to learn and grow and improve and innovate. When things go wrong, staff should seek to learn and grow from the situations, rather than being stubborn, blaming others, etc.
- Are able to work peacefully/respectfully with other people, including with people who have different socio-political or religious beliefs. Our ideal candidates would be those who bridge divides between participants rather than creating or enabling them.
- We also place a high value on candidates with unique skills and gifts for working with under-served communities (i.e. people who can speak different languages, including sign language, people with experience/training in working with people with disabilities, etc).
