TRANSFORMING LIVES...

We believe that God created every person special, filled with purpose and beauty. Have you ever noticed how babies don't give up trying to walk or crawl or climb, no matter how many times they fail? Have you noticed their natural curiosity and love for exploring and learning new things? Have you noticed how completely authentic and genuine they are?

As people grow up, they lose these instincts. They start worrying about what they look like, or what other people think of them. They start to put up walls, to harden their hearts, to bury who they really are, and try to "fit in". Our program is designed to help people naturally reconnect with their childhood state of playfulness, exuberance, curiosity, and love. Our experiences help people to overcome whatever walls they have put up, whatever obstacles are holding them back, to allow their gifts and passions to shine forth, to build up their self-worth, to communicate and live authentically, to help them discover purpose, and ultimately to help them thrive both personally and professionally.

Best of all, our experiences are fun, engaging, and require no special skills or previous experience! We use games and other forms of healthy, interactive, discovery-based learning, to help each person use their natural abilities to learn and grow. Rather than simply telling information to students, we try to help students to naturally experience and discover the answers for themselves. We challenge our students in fun and exciting ways, igniting their passion for learning, sparking and nurturing their natural curiosity, creativity, and imagination. People are naturally curious, they love to learn. This is best exemplified by the way adults and kids alike will spend hours learning and creating on Youtube, yet they struggle to focus and engage at school and work. We build off of this independent curiosity and wonder, helping students to naturally learn to apply it to real life situations, learning to think, problem-solve, learn, create, reason, to work collaboratively and interactively to overcome challenges. This sets them up for success in the classroom and on the stage, but also in college, the professional world, at home, and even as entrepreneurs!

As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to catch fish himself, and you feed him for a lifetime."

TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES...

Our program is designed for people of all different types to succeed. Our ministries model the unconditional love and support of the Lord Jesus Christ, forming a nurturing "chrysalis" environment that enables students and communities to blossom in a healthy, loving manner, free from fear or judgement. Our students discover confidence, passion, and purpose, as well as countless personal and professional skills that will help them in every area of their life.

Our goal is to bring this kind of transformation everywhere, spreading it all over the world, revolutionizing the way that people are taught, the way communities are built and maintained. We believe we can create a larger movement that will spread like wildfire, creating healthy, vibrant communities where everyone can find success. Because people have value, stories have value, lives have value.

In the words of Lilo And Stitch, "Family means nobody is left behind, or forgotten." That's exactly what we are at Chrysalis; a family!

We are a community not of "stars" or "one-onlies", but a family of equals. At Chrysalis, every person is valued, and ALL people, old and young, big and small, graceful and awkward, can find the courage to join the dance and experience for themselves the infectious wonder of creation. We help the lost and afraid, that they may lose their griefs and terrors in the joy and freedom of creation, that unconditional love may set them free. We are a community of healing, a community where everyone belongs. We are a community where those who seek may find more than they ever dared hope for. Some of our students may go on to professional performance careers, but ALL have been given a starring role in the greatest play of all, and can joyfully take their place in the great celebration.

TRANSFORMING THE ARTS

We are bringing about transformation in the arts by remodeling them after the greatest artist of all. He who created the fields and the flowers, and the vastness of the stars in the skies. He who turns mourning into dancing. He who sees incredible beauty in each of us. He who personally created each of us and loves what He created.

That is why our highest priority is our students, not our performances or presentations. You can technically achieve a very perfect looking performance by programming every single part of it down to the tiniest detail, demanding utter perfection, utter submission to your will. You can teach a performer to copy exactly what you teach him. You can program a person's every movement, every reaction, every vocal inflection, to be exactly what you want it to be. However, if you do that, what you will end up with is not art, but a poor imitation of the real thing. True art, true beauty, comes from within a person's very soul. True art is expression, not imitation. The best way to create the very best art is to help every individual person to think for themselves and learn to express themselves with passion, vulnerability, and authenticity.

Unfortunately, people are too often told NOT to think for themselves. They are told to be like every everybody else, to live up to society's standard of success. The standard path to success is entirely academic and systematic, it's a "one-size fits all" path for a world full of people who were created incredibly, beautifully unique. The current accepted path values academic success, not artistry. It values things it can understand, things that have a dollar value, things it can control.  This path can be incredibly degrading, stripping people of their self-worth and forcing them to conform.

Tragically, many of the most famous artists in history were once considered to be failures. They were told to give up their passions, their dreams, to get "real jobs" instead. Imagine what the world be like if these people had given in, if people like JK Rowling and Walt Disney had given up on their passions? That would be a tragedy, right? But what if their inner beauty was nurtured instead of being squashed? How many more of these incredible artists are out there, just needing the right opportunity? That's what Chrysalis is all about! Our greatest goal is to bring out and nurture the inner beauty that is inside each person (much like the butterfly inside each caterpillar). We are transforming the arts by prioritizing the growth of our students as individuals, and the entire community benefits as a result.

Why Chrysalis Is So Important

What do you do when you just don't seem to belong in life? What do you do for the young people who aren't great athletes, aren't great at games, aren't great at singing or dancing, aren't great at school, aren't academically gifted? What about all the people whose gifts and passions don't fit into the structure we've created for success? What about the painters, the inventors, the teachers? What about the late-bloomers? What about those whose gifts and passions aren't readily apparent or valued in childhood? How many people grow up feeling like a failure just because their true value isn't understood or appreciated? Throughout history, there is a long list of incredible names, names of people who we now speak with awe, but who were once considered to be failures, to be sub-par, second-rate, inferior, not good enough...

Tom Brady, Steve Young, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Michael Jordan, JK Rowling, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Abraham Lincoln, Steven Speilberg, Vincent Van Gogh, Stephen King, Oprah Winfrey, Winston Churchill, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, Robert Goddard, Charles Darwin, Harland David Sanders (Colonel Sanders - KFC), R.H. Macy (Macy's), Henry Ford, Jerry Seinfeld, Fred Astaire, Sidney Poitier, Jeanne Moreau, Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball (I Love Lucy), Harrison Ford, Emily Dickinson, Theodor Seuss Giesel (Dr. Seuss), Charles Schultz (Charlie Brown), Louisa May Alcott, Jack London, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Elvis Presley, Igor Stravinsky, The Beatles, Stan Smith, Babe Ruth, Tom Landry, Beyonce, George Lucas, Charles Dyson, Jim Carrey, Katy Perry, Madonna, Mark Cuban, Milton Hershey (Hershey's Chocolates), Sylvester Stallone, Socrates, Robert Sternberg, Lady Gaga, Gene Rodenberry (Star Trek), Vince Lombardi, H.J. Heinz, Clint Eastwood...

As illustrated by the list above, many of the most famous and influential people in all of history were, at one point, considered to be failures. Many of them weren't considered to be special, to be good enough. Many of the greatest names in history are those who didn't fit in, those who weren't considered to be special. Why is that? Perhaps it has something to do with the same reasons why young people today are jumping in front of trains, or over-dosing on drugs, or killing themselves live on the internet, or getting shot down in drive-bys, or rotting in prison. The struggle for "success" is one that many people simply cannot seem to win. For too long, our society has misplaced value. For countless years we have warped and distorted the value of people as individuals. It's time to change that. It's time to create a chrysalis experience for every young person to help them blossom into their own unique and beautiful self, and to help them learn to spread their wings and fly off on their own adventures. That's where Chrysalis Arts Ministries comes in.

Chrysalis is all about discovering, nurturing, and bringing out the value in each individual person. God created every single one of us special and unique, with unique personalities, gifts, and passions. Yet our society has a created a generic set of standards by which each person must abide and measure themselves. Our society has completely stripped people of their true individuality, and eliminated all but a handful of possibilities for people to earn a living and gain the respect of others. What if we could change that? What if we could create a new way of thinking? That's what Chrysalis is all about! We have created an experience that maintains and strengthens the positive individuality of each person, an experience that can help them to find success in this world. Imagine an experience that supports and nurtures each persons' gifts and passions. Imagine a place where people can perform on stage, or create and share art, or create feature films. Imagine a place where students are encouraged to think for themselves, to create new methods and ideas. Imagine a place where new inventions are created and launched, where top chefs learn to cook and are helped to find a place for their talents. Imagine a place where the Broadway shows and artists of tomorrow come to fruition. Imagine a place where the next Olympic gymnast or figure skater goes from their first steps, to their first tryout, to their first triumph. Imagine a place where every person, regardless of achievement, is given value and belief, is supported and helped to flourish and thrive. That's Chrysalis. That is the dream YOU can help to make a reality!
